While it may be the default choice when it comes to executive sedans, the Toyota Camry has always been considered to be one of the most conservatively-styled offerings out there. Not any more, says Toyota Motor Philippines, as it unveils the bold new, eighth-generation Camry today.

One look is all it takes to let onlookers know that this is not your Dad’s Camry. The front grille is aggressively thin, as are the LED headlights and daytime running lights that all blend nicely with the huge lower grille. The side profile and rear are likewise sleeker. It likewise gets dual exhaust tips to let one know that it means business when it comes to driving performance.

No, it isn’t a sports car by any stretch of the imagination. Nor does it aspire to be one. Rather, Toyota promises sharper handling that does not sacrifice ride comfort—a Camry hallmark. Riding on the Toyota New Global Architecture, the car is said to be more agile and more comfortable. It ties in with its Sensual Smart Confidence-inspired styling.

Toyota Motor Philippines drops the 3.5-liter V6 from previous iterations and offers just one engine option: the 2.5-liter four-cylinder with Dual VVTi. This updated motor now puts out 184hp and 231Nm, sent to the front wheels via 6-speed automatic. Higher-spec V variants even get a Drive Mode Selector that allows drivers to choose between Eco, Normal, and Sport settings to suit their style behind the tiller.

Like Camrys of yore, this one’s strong suit is inside the cabin. Now, however, the dash is as adventurous as the exterior, with geometric shapes galore. As with all new cars, this one gets a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and a vivid driver info gauge cluster. Godies include pushbutton start with illuminated entry, full leather seating, power-adjustable seats, three-zone climate control (V trim levels) and a host of other niceties. Rear seat occupants can now control the climate control and sunshades via touch panel located on the center armrest. And yes, the reclining rear seat controls are likewise placed in this space.

With 7 SRS airbags, stability control and a rigid body structure, Toyota promises that this one is among the safest Camrys to date.

The 2019 Toyota Camry will be available at all Toyota dealerships beginning on December 12, 2018 with the following process:

  • Toyota Camry 2.5G: P1,806,000
  • Toyota Camry 2.5V: P1,992,000

White Pearl paint is offered with  a P15,000 premium.
