Around September of last year, Volvo unveiled its very first compact SUV, the XC40. While it may have been its smallest crossover, the Swedish brand did not scrimp of goodies like connectivity and of course, safety. Now, Volvo Cars brings the little SUV to the country via a posh event held recently.
The new XC40 brings to the compact SUV table a host of connectivity and safety features that are quite a rarity in this class. Sensus, for instance is part of the XC40’s innovative infotainment system. With a centrally-mounted touchscreen reminiscent of a tablet, this one allows vehicle and entertainment options to be manipulated at the touch or swipe of the screen.
Then there are safety kit such as Run-off Road mitigation and prevention, Cross-Traffic Alert with Auto Brake, and a 360-degree camera that is useful in tight maneuvers and parking situations. It’s all in keeping with Volvo’s goal of avoiding accidents and making them non-existent, if possible.
Riding on the new Compact Modular Architecture, it allows for a smallish footprint that is big on space and safety. Moreover, it is equally as rigid and stable as the larger Scalable Product Architecture found on the XC90 and XC60. Moroever, the XC40 is designed to help one organize their life with its numerous storage spaces and options. It’s the perfect companion for the urban warrior.
