As the country’s transport sector slowly transitions into the modern age via the phasing in of the Mdern Public Utility Vehicle, Filipinos will get to see these vehicles via a series of displays and activities in the Modern PUV Caravan, which was held recently in the Clark Economic Zone in Pampanga.
One of the players, Hino Motors Philippines, showcased its own version of the Modern PUV, which uses a Euro-4 compliant diesel engine and offers comfortable seating with airconditioning to boot. The Class II and II type vehicles also serve up safety gear such as a speed limiter, CCTV cameras, dashboard cameras, and GPS navigation.
HMP is just one of the players that has also delivered more than a 100 units to various cities and municipalities around the country. It aims to help the government implement its modernization of our admittedly antiquated transport system.
As for the Modern PUV Caravan, it is a joint project of the Department of Transportation, Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board, Land Transportation Office, and the Office of Transport Cooperatives, in cooperation with the Development Bank of the Philippines, Land Bank of the Philippines, along with different vehicle manufacturers like Hino and other industry players. It will have several legs that will run until February of 2020.
