If you’re one of those folks who likes to glance out the window while stuck in traffic, then you may have noticed the proliferation of the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV)  In fact, you may even have gotten a case of SUV and crossover overload, as more and more of these types of vehicles are plying our roads nowadays.

Well, it looks like this isn’t going to change anytime soon. In fact, a recent study by London-based business organization HIS Markit reveals that SUV loyalty grew by a whopping 14% as of April of 2017. This pegged SUV consumer loyalty at an all-time industry level high of 66%.

The survey, which covers the period between 2012 and April 2017, showed that 66% of car buyers were returning purchasers who already have an SUV or crossover, and are once again acquiring the said body style a second or even third time around.

The HIS Markit study credits this trend to the combination of sedan comfort and larger vehicle versatility that SUVs offer. Moreover, the all-weather capability makes them the ideal choice amid the ever-changing climate.

In line with the ever-growing SUV popularity, the study likewise revealed the sedan loyalty has declined over the past few years. Since 2012 up to April of this year, sedan buyers who returned to purchase another vehicle have bought a new SUV—and not the body style they once had. In fact, sedan loyalty has been pegged at 49%--dipping from a 56% average in 2012.  The study did point out, however, that this body style isn’t about to go away anytime soon.

Should these trends continue (which may be likely), it looks like we will be seeing more SUVs in the years to come.
