The 2017 Toyota Wigo Gets Sharper Looks and a New Engine

If you’re a regular commuter, chances are you’re having a bit of Wigo overload.  We, of course, refer to Toyota’s popular little city car, which is also known as the Daihatsu Ayla I other markets. While that’s not entirely a bad thing, the Japanese carmaker has deemed it wise to freshen up the little Wigo (Agya in places like Indonesia) and give it a sharper look and some cool new goodies under the skin.

The updated Toyota Wigo gets a sleeker front end with upswept projector-type halogen headlamps, a revised grille, a blacked-out lower bumper design, and updated foglamp treatment. It is now tied in with the signature Toyota family face that is fast becoming a part of most models in the lineup.

The side profile, though largely unchanged, receives new alloy wheel designs that give it more presence. The rear also sports new taillights and a rear spoiler on TRD variants. Yes, you read that right—Toyota Racing Development on an otherwise no-nonsense city runabout.

The changes continue into the cabin with niceties like a 2-DIN infotainment head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, as well as steering-wheel controls. Fabrics and trims have likewise been upgraded for a more premium feel.

One of the more notable revisions, however, can be seen under the hood. Joining the base 66hp and 89Nm 1.0-liter three-cylinder motor is a new 3NR-FE 1.2-liter four-pot that puts out 87hp and 108Nm of torque. It is mated to either a 5-speed manual (which is shared with the 1.0-liter mill) or a 4-speed autobox for higher-end versions.

Despite being a city car, safety isn’t sacrificed. All variants get SRS airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and engine immobilizer. Top-spec models receive antilock brakes and reverse parking sensors.

The 2017 Toyota Wigo will be sold initially in Indonesia.
