As Ferrari celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the Italian supercar maker mixes its glorious past with forward-thinking innovation. This is seen in its latest 12-cylinder hypercar, the all-new Ferrari 812 Superfast.
Set to make its debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show this March, the mid-front engine V12 Ferrari traces its roots to the original 12-cylinder models of 1947. It likewise looks to the future with the most cutting-edge tech inside and out.
That motor, for instance, is a new 6.5-liter V12 that is touted to be the most powerful one in the Prancing Horse’s history, at 800hp and 718Nm. Paired with the patented dual-clutch gearbox that promises faster shifts, the mill is said to deliver 80% of its torque at just 3,500rpm. This translates to better acceleration all the way to the peak rev range of 7,000rpm for torque and 8,500rpm for the 800 horses. This equates to a 0-100kph blast in just 2.9 seconds and a top speed in excess of 340kph.
Besides the superfast, acceleration (no pun intended), the latest 12-cylinder Ferrari boasts goodies like Electric Power Steering (available for the first time in the range), Side Slip Control 5.0, and Virtual Short Wheelbase 2.0 systems all contribute to better handling and driving fun. Plus, they promise to make the car feel more nimble and quicker on its feet as well well giving it more sability at the top end.
And of course, the trademark fuctional yet eye-catching design is there for all the world to see. Air falps up front not only look good but help provide better downforce. The side profile is done is the best Ferrari tradition while adding a futuristic vibe. And the rear, with its high tail and four round tailpipes both hark back to cars like the 1969 Ferrari 365 GTB4 and the best 12-cylinder Pracing Horses, respectively. The new car will even come in a stunning Rosso Settanta—a shade done especially for the marque’s 70th birthday.
The new Ferrari 812 Superfast will premiere at the Geneva Motor Show this March.
