At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen wowed visitors with an athletic yet elegant looking show car known as the Sport Coupe Concept GTE. Two years later, the German auto giant finally reveals the production version with minimal changes in design execution. Enter the Volkswagen Arteon.
What sets the Volkswagen Arteon apart from the usual suspects is its truly sleek and sophisticated form. The large grille is intertwined with the LED headlamps and daytime running lights. The low slung hood goes well into the fenders, while the sloping roofline and fender flares give it a sporty stance. The look is finished off by a fastback profile.
Positioned above the Passat in the VW model hierarchy, the Arteon provides the perfect balance between executive car luxury and hatchback versatility and sportiness. It is VW’s take on the Graan Turismo concept and features a host of powerful yet efficient engines to suit every driving style. The six available motors have power outputs ranging from a modest 148hp to 276 horses. It can also be had in either front- or 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Tech goodies are likewise part of the mix. These come in the form of Active Info Display (or Digital Cockpit), heads-up display, Discover Pro infotainment system with large 9.2-inch touchscreen, and even Gesture Control. And yes, the tech features also include the latest in safety gear. The Adaptive Cruise Control, for instance, monitors the speed limit on the road being taken and adjusts the speed accordingly. This just shows how advanced the avant-garde looking Arteon is.
At launch, Volkswagen will offer the Arteon in the luxury-oriented Elegance and the sporty R-Line. Both will go on sale beginning June of this year.
