Since its introduction in the mid-90s, the Honda City has slowly but surely morphed into a stylish subcompact offering. Today, the latest-generation City is a far cry from its plain-Jane and even odd-looking predecessors. It’s sleek and upscale in every aspect.
Now, Honda Thailand unveils an even sleeker and sportier City. Still possessing the lines of the suave current iteration, the updated Honda City now gets LED headlamps, foglamps, and daytime running lights. It likewise receives revised front and rear bumper designs, along with more stylish alloy rims.
Stepping inside reveals a gunmetal-hued dash, LED interior lighting, and sportier seats. The luxury part comes from the cool toys like pushbutton start, full auto climate control for top-spec models, touchscreen infotainment system that allows easy pairing of Android or iOS devices, among many others.
While this may be a subcompact, it is anything but small on safety kit. Six SRS airbags, Vehicle Stability Assist, Multi-angle rearview camera, emergency stop signal, and hill start assist are just some of the features on offer.
The Honda City is still powered by a 1.5-liter SOHC VTEC motor with 120hp and 146Nm. Mated to a Continuously Variable Transmission with 7-speed virtual gearbox and paddle shifters, the Earth Dreams combo provides more than adequate punch while still being frugal at the gas pump. It even has an Eco coaching light and Eco Mode to save on precious fuel.
The refreshed Honda City goes on sale in Thailand and will soon follow in other markets. We can expect Honda Cars Philippines to launch it real soon.
