It’s no secret that the E-Class is one of the models that has the widest array of variants in the Mercedes-Benz range. You’ve got a stately sedan, a versatile wagon, a stylish coupe, and even AMG-equipped models for the sporty set. Now, the E-Class family welcomes the Cabriolet, for folks who want an E but just need to feel the wind in their hair.

The open-top four-seater retains the flanks of its coupe sibling and adds a bit of drop-top flair to the mix. The low-set diamond grille witth the centrally-mounted three-pointed star, the large LED headlamps, slim taillights, and other cues give a semblance to the rest of the family. And it actually retains the coupe’s stylish profile when the roof is up.

What sets the E-Class Cabriolet apart, however, is the folding soft top that can easily be electronically tucked into the rear compartment in a quick 20 seconds, even while going at up to speeds of 50kph. Owners can choose either dark red, dark brown, dark blue, or black to match their style and car’s body color. Either way, one can drive comfortably and safely with the roof up or worry- and carefree with the top down.

To further ensure year-round protection, AIRCAP is Merc’s very own electric draught-stop system that reduces wind drag in the passenger compartment. AIRSCARF, on the other hand, keeps the neck warm and toasty even in cold open-top conditions. Both systems, together with the competent climate control system help ensure constant and comfy driving temperatures—no matter what the weather is, even if you choose to have the wind in your face.

Wider, longer, and with a stretched wheelbase compared to its predecessor, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet promises an even more luxurious cabin for four occupants. Passengers are pampered in first-rate materials and have the latest connectivity and infotainment options at their disposal. They can interact with the car using either the steering wheel swipe controls. Touchpad controller, or even the latest Mercedes Me Connect that allows them to remotely monitor and perform various vehicle functions using their smartphone. And a cool 12.3-inch screen makes it easy to see what’s going on while in the car.

At launch the new E-Class Cabrio can be had with a slew of gasoline or diesel engine options. Each one is mated to the vaunted 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic and for the first time, available 4Matic all-wheel drive. Drivers are also able to customize their Cabrio to suit their style via the Dynamic Select system that lets them manipulate throttle, steering, transmission and suspension settings, even allowing them to control Dynamic Body Control or Air Body Control functions. This gives it the perfect mix of sport and luxury at their fingertips.

First seen in 1992 as the 300CE 24, the  Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet celebrates its 25th anniversary this year with a special 25th Anniversary Edition. This particular offering adds such goodies as the Cabrio Comfort package with open-pore elmwood trim, 20-inch twin-spoke alloys, AirBalance pack, illuminated sill plates, and of course, 25th Anniversary badging all around.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet is the Merc for those that want the best of year-round motoring.
