The world first got a glimpse of the Mercedes-Benz GLA compact SUV when it made its debut in 2013. Since then, it has brought a premium touch to a segment that is filled with choices that range from the affordable to the more premium models. Now, the Mercedes-Benz of CUVs gets an upgrade with a model that premieres at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
It begins with the available LED headlamps that give it extra flair and a touch of safety at night. The grille, bumpers, and a new canyon beige hue offer new visual cues, along with updated alloy wheel designs. These are complemented by new interior bits and materials that offer a more premium vibe.
Apart from these, the GLA comes with segment leading 360-degree surround view camera, hands-free access, and an Exclusive package that adds a slew of goodies to further elevate its status as an upmarket CUV. There is also a Night Edition that offer high-gloss black touches to the wheels, mirrors, and other places. It’s a truly stylish and sporty demeanor.
Just like any Mercedes-Benz, the updated GLA can be ordered with a slew of engines to suit one’s driving style. Choose from diesel variants include the GLA 180d, GLA 200d and GLA 220d—the latter two can be had with 4Matci all-wheel drive. Then there are the gasoline-fed models like the GLA 180, GLA 200, GLA 220 4Matic, and GLA 250 with available 4Matic option. Each one promises performance and economy from every drive.
What really sets the GLA apart from the pack is the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4Matic. This one packs a 381hp, 475Nm 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged mill. Paired with an AMG SpeedShift seven-speed dual-clutch sports transmission, the CUV sprints from rest to 100kph in just 4.4 seconds and reaches an electronically governed top speed of 250kph. It’s true sports car performance mixed with SUV versatility and practicality.
The Mercedes-Benz GLA will available to order beginning this January.
