Mercedes-Maybach has built its reputation around making some of the most luxurious limousines and saloon cars in the world. Offerings like the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, S-Class Pullman, and even the new S-Class Cabriolet are much sought-after by diplomats and society’s upper crust. Now, the wealthy can still get that Mercedes-Maybach brand of opulence as they go off the beaten path, thanks to the all-new Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet.
Merc enthusiasts may recognize the Landaulet name as a maker of some of the most exclusive rides to ever come out of Stuttgart. Some notable examples are the Benz 25/45 PS of 1910, the 1960 Mercedes-Benz 300 d Landaulet, and the 2008 Maybach Landaulet. For its latest iteration, Landaulet lends its upscale refinement to the ruggedly handsome G-Class off-roader. Yet this G is unlike anything that has ever been produced throughout its long and colorful history.
For one, the long wheelbase, set at 3,428mm, allows the four occupants to stretch out in the lap of luxury. This is especially true for rear-seat passengers, who each get individual first-class chairs straight from the Mercedes S-Class. These thrones have air chambers, are electrically adjustable, and even have calf supports to provide the utmost seating comfort. They can even be reclined for those times when passengers wish to catch a quick snooze while on the move.
The rear quarters are made even more comfortable with all the controls right at one’s fingertips. There are switches for the glass partition that separates the front and rear sections, as well as for the infotainment system with a pair of large 10-inch monitors. There are even cupholders that can be heated or cooled, depending on how you like your drink. But what really sets this G-Class apart is the electrically-adjustable folding soft top set above the rear passenger compartment. This allows occupants to enjoy open-air motoring whle still sitting in the lap of luxury and style.
The opulent two-tone interior is merely one part of the Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet, of course. This being a G, legendary off-road genes are truly present. The Mercedes-AMG G63 6x6’s and G500 4x4’s portal axles, paired with 325/55R22 tires, and 450mm ground clearance make for go-anywhere capabilities in the truest sense of the word. Add to this a powerful Mercedes-AMG biturbo V12 motor putting out 630hp and 1,000Nm of torque, and you’ve got one potent beast.
The new Mercedes-Maybach G650 Landaulet will have its world debut at this year’s Geneva Motor Show in March. Deliveries will soon follow, though these will be limited to an ultra-exclusive 99 units.
