Volkswagen Uses Lego Bricks to Showcase Its Colorful Journey

Volkswagen is one car company which has arguably one of the most colorful journeys throughout its almost 80-year history. The German brand has given the world such icons as the Beetle, the Microbus (aks Kombi), the Golf GTI, and the Passat. And pretty much everyone you know has had at least one VW in their garage at one point in their life.

Volkswagen of America showcases this journey in an equally vivid interpretation using no less than the world’s favorite toy—Lego. The 2ft by 3.5ft display is made up of roughly 20,000 Lego bricks and depicts the versatility of the VW brand. The colorful cityscape is complemented by a quiet countryside scene—both of which highlight the widespread appeal of the VW marque.

The VW-Lego scene also shows off the brand’s ever-present connection with the family. On one side is the iconic Volkswagen Microbus. Anyone who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s will surely recognize the “hippie van” that combined simplistic engineering with timeless design. It is exactly these traits that have made it a classic that lives on even up to this day.

Beside the classic Microbus is the modern VW family hauler, the all-new Volkswagen Atlas. The seven-seat SUV highlights the same simple and clean lines, mixed with cutting-edge tech that promises to ferry families in comfort, safety, and style. And yes, both Microbus and Atlas are made entirely of Lego bricks.

The Volkswagen Lego Journey showcase can be seen at the ongoing Chicago Auto Show.
