The Toyota Prius C Gets More Stylish and Safer With Latest Update

The Toyota Prius C may be the smallest hybrid in the family. Yet this doesn’t mean that this little Toyota scrimps on goodies and features. On the contrary, the Japanese carmaker throws in quite a lot of kit, particularly when it comes to safety. This can be seen in the latest update to the Prius C model range.

The changes begin on the outside, with a sportier front fascia that screams excitement, rather than boring green car. The LED headlamps, LED taillights, side rocker panels, and blacked-out roof spoiler at the back are all revised for a more youthful appearance. Clever things like placing the battery and fuel tank underneath the rear seat, as well as a more rigid body help improve weight distribution, and handling and ride comfort, respectively.

The bigger news, however, is the Toyota Safety System C, which now comes standard on all Prius C models. Besides the numerous airbags (there are 9 in total), the Star Safety System (with Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, and a truly rigid bodyshell, among others), the compact Prius also gets goodies like Pre-collision system, automatic high beam, and lane departure warning. All these ensure that occupants and pedestrians stay out of harm’s way.

The Toyota Prius C is still powered by a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline motor with the Atkinson’s cycle for more efficient operation. Mated to an electric motor, it puts out a total system output of 99hp. To make things more interesting, a drive mode selector allows drivers to choose between Normal Eco, and EV modes. This makes for true customization and brings out  the most efficient nature of the car.

And with cool colors like Absolutely Red, Tangerine Splash Pearl, and Blue Streak Metallic, the little Toyota Prius C is one chic and safe car. Quite un-hybrid, don’t you think?
