This is How BMW Will Operate in the Future

In the future, the logistics of producing a BMW vehicle will be just as sophisticated as the cars themselves. This is the scenario given by the German carmaker as it recently revealed how it plans to streamline the logistics process to make things more efficient for its operations, as well as how it proposes to make business more efficient for its clients.

For the BMW Group alone, around 30 million parts need to be delivered to the various plants each and every day. We don’t simply refer to factories within a certain radius but about 31 megafactories worldwide. To ensure timely delivery, BMW will be employing a more transparent data service that will let its people track each and every part that is in transport. This will help prevent delays and ensure that each component is accounted for.

The connected tracking network can also work when delivering vehicles from the plant to the dealer. Just like the parts bin, this tech will assist in lessening delays and ensure timely arrival of that brand-spanking new BMW at the showroom for eager customers.

Speaking of parts, Augmented Reality Goggles can aid in finding the right part and letting one know where each piece goes. The goggles can even perform quality checks to detect imperfections that the human eye would have otherwise missed.

To help workers get the job doen, self-driving Smart Transport Robots will be let loose to bring components to and from each part of the factory to the other in a truly efficient manner. They wil work in tandem with autonomous tugger trains, and electric trucks. The whole system is in keeping with BMW’s goal of operating in a zero-emissions environment.

Yes, the future will still have cars. But if companies like BMW have a say, they will buld cars that aren’t just fun to drive but clean as well. And naturally, the production process should also be just as green.
