The Volkswagen Golf GTI has always been one of those cars that offer the best of both worlds. The latest model, for instance, boasts something like 230hp under the hood, razor sharp handling, yet still offers comfort and practicality even for a small family.  For folks who don’t find the less than 7 second 0-100kph time sporty enough, however, might want to opt for the new Performance Package set to be fielded by Volkswagen.

One can immediately tell the GTI Performance apart from its “regular” GTI sibling by the red GTI lettering up front and at the rear, as well as the GTI badge on the red brake calipers on the vented front and rear stoppers. The cabin likewise gets a slew of upgrades, such as the Active Display, a 6-speaker Composition Media infotainment system, along with  an anti-dazzle inside rearview mirror, just to name a few.

Of course, the Performance badge isn’t just for show. Under the hood throbs a more potent 245hp version of the 2.0-liter TSI four-pot. Packing an additional 20Nm, now rated at 370Nm, the more powerful and torque-y motor can hustle the car along even quicker, with rest to 100kph times pegged at 6.2 ticks. Moreover, buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox. Plus, electronic front differential lock ensures even sharper handling.

Yes, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Performance takes the cult classic to an even higher level in the performance (no pun intended) and desirability ladder. It is now available to order in Europe. Other markets will follow soon.
