Less than a year after its global launch, Volvo’s flagship S90 sedan will finally break cover in the Philippines.

The newest Volvo top-spec model uses the brand’s vaunted Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), a new modular vehicle platform that was first seen on the XC90 and is set to underpin all future Volvos. In fact, quite a lot of the S90’s features take their cue from the Swedish carmaker’s large luxury SUV.

The front fascia, for instance, likewise features touches like the Thor’s hammer LED headlamps, the signature grille with Volvo’s Iron Mark badge, and other little details. Then there is the cabin, with stuff like the portrait-oriented touchscreen interface flanked by air vents (or air blades in Volvo-speak) that exude a simple yet sophisticated vibe. The interface is controlled by Sensus, a new infotainment, vehicle function, and in-car entertainment system that keeps occupants connected and drivers in total control at all times.

The new Volvo S90 will be powered by a range of gasoline and diesel motors. Folks that want the best of both worlds can go for the T8 Twin Engine that is essentially a low-emissions gasoline mill paired with an electric motor. This hybrid combo, which is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, provides powerful performance with outstanding economy—to the tune of around 45kms on pure electric mode. It’s luxurious efficiency at its finest.

Of course, safety is the norm here. Apart from the usual Volvo alphabet soup of safety features, the new S90 boasts stuff like City Safety with Large Animal detection, as well as Pilot Assist which brings customers one step closer to an autonomous driven future.

The new Volvo S90 will be available at all Volvo showrooms.
