DOE, Petron Corp. hold 2017 Fuel Economy Run in Pampanga

Last November 21, 2017, a huge group of people and cars from different brands converged in Angeles City, Clark, Pampanga. The reason being was the 13th edition of the Department of Energy (DOE) Fuel Economy Run (DOE Eco Run).

In brief, the DOE Eco Run is a benchmarking activity that aims to set fuel efficiency ratings for new cars sold in the Philippines. This year’s edition went with the theme “E-Power Mo”, a theme that champions fuel efficiency, environment conservation, and the wise use of energy. This, in turn, helps car manufacturers and fuel giants like Petron Corporation to come up with more fuel efficient vehicles and cleaner fuel, respectively.

Aside from these, the DOE Eco Run is also the energy department’s way of conveying its message to the motoring public. Case in point, with the right choice of vehicle, responsible driving, and proper vehicle care, one can indeed save fuel and conserve energy.

The Run

The 2017 DOE Eco Run covered around 216 Km of road in Pampanga. It started off 12 midnight at the Petron Angeles City Clark service station. It traversed a huge stretch of the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) and a part of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), before making a U-turn and heading back to the starting point just minutes before sunrise.

The convoy consisted of a total of 52 vehicles from over 20 different car manufacturers. As the Run’s primary sponsor for 2 years now, Petron provided its XCS and TurboDiesel fuels for the convoy’s 26 gasoline- and 26 diesel-fed vehicles, respectively. Each vehicle was brimmed with a full tank of fuel and had 3 people onboard; a driver, a co-driver, and a media observer.

The Results

After a few intensive hours of calculations and technicalities, the results were finally brought out. The good news was that more than half of the vehicles in the convoy registered fuel efficiency ratings of over 20 Km per liter (Km/L).
