British carmaker Aston Martin has made a historic return to its original production facility at Newport in Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, England. To be specific, this said facility, which the company previously left in 2003, is now serving as its 2nd production house next to its high-tech facility in Warwickshire.
Winding back the time almost 6 decades ago, the Newport facility saw the production of the original Aston Martin DB4 GTs. More recently, it became home to the Aston Martin Works, the brand’s take on an elaborate after sales service, spare parts, and restoration shop.
Aston Martin made the decision to repurpose the place back to its original use as part of its Second Century Plan. To mark this historic feat, it has green-lighted the production of the limited-run Aston Martin DB4 GT Continuation, a model that symbolizes the “continuation” of the facility’s original purpose as a production house and the continuation of the legendary DB4 GTs’ success.
To date, the first production batch of this limited edition model is now in the hands of its respective owners, a notably fast turnout of just under a year after its introduction. According to Aston Martin, the remaining batches of the DB4 GT Continuation will be produced and delivered to buyers during the course of 2018.
But the good news from Aston Martin didn’t stop there. That’s because the carmaker is in the process of completing its 3rd production facility at St Athan, Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. This would help the brand expand its reach better than before.
“For more than half a century Newport Pagnell was the heart of Aston Martin. Thanks to the efforts of those at Aston Martin Works it has since become the torchbearer for our Heritage division. It’s immensely satisfying and wholly appropriate that this historic, yet state-of-the-art facility should now form a key part of our expansion. Together with Gaydon and our all-new production facility at St Athan - which is progressing towards completion - it’s my pleasure to see production officially return to Newport Pagnell,” said Aston Martin President and CEO Andy Palmer.
