It’s green and go for the first ever Giti Formula V1 Race Challenge this May

For the past 5 years, the Philippine motorsports industry has been enjoying its share of grassroots racing events that have yielded some of the best racers in the biz today. Examples of these include the FlatOut Race Series and the Toyota Vios Cup.

What comes next after these is an eventual step toward the next level. It’s called the Giti Formula V1 Race Challenge (Giti-FV1RC), a new racing series organized by Tuason Racing School (TRS), the country’s premier racing school. For some, the news surrounding the creation of this series would sound familiar as it made initial headlines last year in a racecar demo event held at the Clark International Speedway (CIS) in Pampanga.

To recap, the Giti-FV1RC is a single-seater racing series featuring standardized machines that run with a mid-mounted 110 hp 1.5L mill, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It will be held in 4 rounds shared by 2 venues; the CIS and the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC).

The winning team would then move up the competition ladder, that being a chance to race aboard at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. There, he or she would be given room to pit his or her racing skills against some of Japan’s best V1 racers.

Confirmed drivers and teams for the inaugural Giti-FV1RC are as follows; Mark Dy and Arbie Jacinto for Team Formula Fors, Stefan Ramirez for Team Scuderia Ramirez De Arellano, Luis Gono and Dominique Roque for Team Clean Fuel, Shane Henderson, Tyson Sy and Sean Smith for Team PartsPro Racing, Jon Effinger for Team AP Corse, Jussi Hoika for Team Growl-Thule, Masanori Aya for Team West Racing Japan, and Fadil Alam for Team Presido Jakarta Ban Racing.

There are also several more teams that have recently confirmed their participation, making the total team count of 13 entries as of this writing. These include Team Frontrow whose driver will be announced before the opening round.

Forcasting the series' success in the next 3 years, TRS said that it would expand the championship to allow for more teams to join. This will give room for more drivers to take a shot at winning the title and bagging the chance to compete in several more of Japan's racing circuits like Suzuka and Motegi.
