4 things to keep in mind when dressing up your ride

It’s been a long-time practice of most car owners to dress up their ride. From simplethings like putting on bigger wheels to all-out custom bodykits or tweaking the engine, such modifications allow them to make the vehicle one that is truly their own.

Sometimes, however, a lot of mods tend to go overboard. Some tend to be outright garish while others simply tend to make the car unsuitable for daily use. So what exactly does a good dress up job mean?

While there is no hard and fast answer, here are a few tips to keep in mind when dressing up your vehicle.

  1. Know What You Want: The first thing to ask yourself when embarking on accessories installation is: what do I want to achieve? Are you after a show car look? Or is function more your thing? Answering this truthfully will allow you to tailor the car’s look and other mods to your liking. Apart from having a goal, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make a list of parts you want to put in. While we can put in a gazillion items, chances are that a lot of these are simply out of whim. Know exactly what you want and stick to it.
  2. Know Where to Get These Parts. Shop around for a reputable accessories dealer that meets your requirements. While there may be a number of shops out there, finding the right one is key as it can help preserve the look and quality you’re after.
  3. Learn to admit when enough is enough: As we mentioned earlier, it’s tempting to keep on going when you see your ride coming together. But know your limits, both financially and when it comes to bordering on going overboard. There are times when asking the question, “do I really need this?” becomes necessary. And stick to your convictions on this one.
  4. Less Can Actually Mean More: While accessorizing  one’s ride allows that person to put his or her own signature on the vehicle, true car nuts know that keeping it stock and going for a clean look isn’t such a bad thing. Not only will you preserve the car’s lines and functionality but it will hold its resale value better over time.

But as we mentioned, it all depends on what you’re after. If all you want is to spruce up your vehicle just enough to give it that extra something, then stick with the stuff that you need. But if you want a show car to wow the crowds, then by all means, accessorize to your heart’s content.
