When one thinks of luxury Sport Utility Vehicles, one somehow imagines these shiny rides riding up to the country club ferrying their wealthy owners to their next golf game or social event. But what most folks don’t realize is that these utes are capable of doing so much more. Case in point is what transpired at the Hungry for Adventure event held recently by the three pointed star brand.
Mercedes-Benz aficionados will note that the Hungry for Adventure eent is nothing new as a couple of them were already held in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia since 2016. It was, however, the first time that it came to the Philippines, taking place in the more scenic and adventurous part of Cavite.
Motoring journalists took off one fine day on board a pair of Mercedes-Benz GLCs—the 200 Exclusive and GLC 220 d--en route to Cavite. The trip allowed them to experience the sport ute’s various facets—from being a smooth highway cruiser to a truly capable off-road vehicle.
Apart from the available gasoline or diesel motors and 9G-tronic transmission, the Mercedes-Benz GLC also boasts of tech goodies such as Intelligent Light System that adjusts the light according to road and driving conditions, and Active Park Assist which helps drivers get into those tight parking spots without scratching their ride.
Beyond the tech and comfort of the GLC, however, Mercedes-Benz also wanted to showcase the lifestyle angle that these vehicles possess. We’re talking about the active lifestyle, where one can go paragliding, trek up to the crater of the world-famous Taal Volcano, or take their GLC off-road. Yes, the journalists did all these, showing the fun side of the vehicle.
All this just goes to show that these SUVs, premium as they are, need not be relegated to social duty. They can truly hack it out on the trails and play in the mud when called upon to do so. So take them out and treat them to some fun in the sun, rain, and muddy trails. They are, afterall, Hungry for Adventure.
