Most people tend to associate the Lexus brand as being pricey and out of reach. This is especially true for its Sport Utility Vehicles, which are pegged at more than P3 million for the entry-level NX. But with a new compact crossover recently introduced, Lexus didn’t just unveil a new model. It likewise made owning a Lexus a bit more accessible.

We refer to the Lexus UX, which made its Philippine debut a few weeks ago. It follows the global reveal at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and puts the brand within reach of up and coming young professionals who want to own a premium crossover such as this.

At P2,478,000 for the UX 200 and P3,048,000 for the F Sport variant, buyers get the same concept car-like styling cues that have dominated L:exus iterations as of late. The trademark Spindle Grille sits proudly front and center, flanked by two sharp-looking headlight clusters with daytime running lights. The side is likewise full of sharp creases for a sporty and edgy look. All this is finished off with 17-inch alloy wheels, which can be upgraded to 18s for the F Sport.

It’s typical Lexus inside, which in all honesty is not a bad thing. This means you get first-rate materials with a host of color palettes to choose from. The driver gets a large digital instrument cluster while an equally massive tdisplay sits atop the dash. As with all Lexus models, it is controlled by a touchpad interface.

Sitting on the Global Architecture-C platform, the new Lexus UX has a low center of gravity yet still boasts ample ground clearance. Giviing it motivation is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor with 168hp and 205Nm of torque, mated to a Direct Shift Continuously Variable Transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels.

With its relatively affordable pricing and the Lexus badge, expect to see many of these hit our streets real soon.
