Many Filipino car buyers have this notion that European rides are pricey. Then there is the opposite end of the spectrum that sees more affordable European nameplates—albeit stripped to the bare essentials. Yet it doesn’t necessarily have to be this way, says Volkswagen Philippines. Case in point is its best-selling Jetta.
Priced at a relatively reasonable P1.1M for the Comfortline variant and P1.2M for the higher-end Highline trim level, the VW Jetta is right smack in the Japanese compact car territory. Those that think they’ll be getting a stripped-down version will be pleasantly surprised with the VW compact sedan’s slew of premium features.
For one, it is the only one in its class with a 2.0-liter Turbocharged Direct Injection (TDI) diesel motor. This potent yet economical mill puts out 150hp and 340Nm of torque, coursed to the front wheels via 6s-eed DSG transmission. Ride and handling are taken care of by 3-point wishbone suspension up front and multilinks at the rear. Electromechanical speed-sensitive power steering, Electronic Stabilization Program, Anti Slip Regulation, Electronic Differential Lock, and Engine Drag Torque Control all ensure that you stay on course at all times.
Beyond the drive, the Volkswagen Jetta gets a host of upmarket features belying its price. Both Comfortline and Highline get a sunroof, a 5.8-inch Touchscreen Audio system, and Keyless-Go with engine push-start system. The Highline receives additional goodies in the form of a Fender Audio system with 8 speakers, rain-sensing wipers, 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support, dual-zone Climatronic climate control system, and 17-inch alloy rims.
Yes, all this for the aforementioned prices. Do hurry, though, as these SRPs will only last until April 30, 2018 or until supplies last.
