Over a month after Enzo Pastor was shot dead by a masked gunman last June 12, 2014 in Quezon City, while driving a truck carrying his race car on his way to Clark for the 2nd leg of the Asian V8 Championships, the hard hitting Mayor of Davao will use the money he raised for Enzo's racing career to bring the killers and their masterminds to jail or the morgue.
"I am personally offering a cash reward of One Million Pesos (PHP 1,000,000.00) for any information leading to the capture of the gunmen and masterminds behind the killing of the late champion race car driver, Ferdinand “Enzo” Pastor." The Mayor spoke in a Davao hotel.
"Enzo was a personal friend of mine. I have been following his achievements ever since he won Formula Renault in 2002. His tragic death was not only a loss to his family and children, but was a loss for the country as well. I want to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice, and I will not stop until this is done."
The floor was then opened for questions.
What made you decide to put up this Reward?
Mayor Duterte: "Aside from Enzo Pastor being a friend of mine,
- This is a National Tragedy that cuts across regional borders.
- I want to ensure that the perpetrators for this crime are found and brought to justice. The perpetrators deserve to be jailed as soon as possible.
- This crime also involved ‘riding in tandem’, which I completely abhor. More crimes can be avoided by prohibiting riding in tandem in motorcycles.
- And our country needs a closure for this violent type of crime, once and for all. I will do what I can in my power to ensure crimes like these don’t happen again.
Q: Did the Pastor family seek for your help?
Mayor Duterte: No. Enzo’s family need not seek for my help. I am helping voluntarily, because I believe it is the least I can do. Enzo was a motorsports hero who brought honor to our country, and his senseless death is a national tragedy.
Are you personally involved in the investigations?
Mayor Duterte: No. All investigations and apprehensions shall still be done by the PNP and the NBI. I just contributed the Reward money in finding the perpetrators of this crime against Enzo. I have volunteered to help in fast tracking the investigation by letting informants get in touch with me. I will relay any and all Informants’ calls to the PNP and the NBI in Manila.
Did the NBI and PNP approve of your announcement and donation of the Reward for Enzo?
Mayor Duterte: Yes. DILG Secretary Mar Roxas and the NBI Director General Virgilio Mendez support my offer for a reward and welcome my help in finding the perpetrators of the Enzo Pastor killing.
Any last statement?
Mayor Duterte: Yes. I will not stop until I find the persons who killed Enzo Pastor in jail or in the morgue. We should all not stop, otherwise it will make all of us feel that it is unsafe to go out in the streets on any part of our country, whether in Davao City or in Manila.
