Last night (July 1) I was having dinner with my brothers and some new friends. As we bid our farewells and went our separate ways, sometime around midnight I get a text from my friend, Ira. On her way home, she was walking down N. Garcia street and noticed a lipstick red Honda or Vios (she’s not a car gal) with heavily tinted windows stopped at the intersection of N. Garcia (Reposo) and Kalayaan avenue, Makati.
Seeing the lights had changed cycle already twice without the vehicle moving, she approached the car and started knocking on the window. Soon cars had built up behind and started honking their horns and roughly 10 people had gathered around yelling, knocking and cursing. Nobody could really see inside due to the heavy tint but they could make out a body slumped against the driver’s window (the one they were all banging on) so she called Lifeline. Before the ambulance arrived, the Police or Barangay patrol of Bel Air showed up (She said they were in a grey FX type vehicle and had very neat grey uniforms)
Eventually, in what had to be at least ten minutes since the banging started, the driver , who was described as attractive, mid twenties, wearing a mini skirt and visibly intoxicated, opened the door. She admitted to having a drink but insisted that she was not drunk, though it took her a couple of minutes to realize where she was. My friend told her to just wait because Lifeline is on its way with a driver on call.
She refused to be driven. My friend even offered to pay for the driver on call and pleaded with her. She insisted that she was not drunk and had just fallen asleep. So the Police did the next best thing and helped her cross the intersection by stopping the other cars and waved her goodbye once she made it through. True story.
