1968 Mustang - Shelby “Black Hornet” tribute car

An absolute one of a kind in the Philippines, this car was hand built as a tribute car to the famous “Black Hornet”, which was part of Carroll Shelby’s personal collection and auctioned off in 2008 for US$160.000.-. Absolutely no expense was spared, with every single part aside from the 1967 chassis and body individually researched and imported from the US for this ground up restoration. The project took just over 12 months under the supervision of a Norwegian car restoration expert.

It features a completely rebuilt Ford 351 Windsor V8 with aluminum heads, high compression pistons, roller cam, a high performance intake by Professional Products and a 4 barrel Edelbrock carburetor, hand-built by celebrated American engine builder Ken Kepner, who is an 8-year holder of Philippine Drag Racing 'Fastest Driver' record.

It comes with completely new suspension, a fully overhauled C4 automatic transmission, an original 9 inch rear, four disc brakes by Wilwood, Digital gauges and power steering, and features a custom interior and Shelby inspired bucket seats that were hand-fabricated by a renowned car upholsterer.

Condition report

The car is in near-new, almost show-quality condition with no visible signs of wear on the interior and on the paint. Everything from windshield washers to lights are in working order. The engine is well-tuned, starts immediately, idles beautifully and has less than 3,000 kilometers on the odometer.

1967 Ford Mustang

Another pet project of a muscle car enthusiast that has to be seen to be appreciated.

Restored by the legendary Ken Kepner, this 67 Mustang is in very good condition and has been extensively modernized while retaining the best elements of the muscle car era. The +410hp engine has lightweight aluminum Edelbrock Performer heads, aluminum Edelbrock intake manifolds, Headman headers, hydraulic lifters, roller rockers, high capacity MSD ignition, a light weight aluminum radiator, and iridium plugs.

Problem was, it went too fast, which prompted the owner to install SSBC brake disks all around, as well as adjustable coil-overs by TCP, heavy duty negative-roll control arms by Global West, and durable polyurethane bushings. Rear suspension has Maier racing springs, adjustable sway bar, and Bilstein gas shocks. BF Goodrich gForce extreme performance summer tires are all around fitted on Vintage Shelby 16” wheels.

To be able to appreciate the power and handling, a precise rack and pinion by TCP with power steering had to be installed. Transmission was also upgraded to a five speed T-5 Borg Warner with a Hurst short throw shifter and a limited slip differential in the rear end.

The body, although not in perfect condition, has a light weight fiberglass hood and trunk, full sub-frame connectors to stiffen the chassis, a rear trunk mounted battery to better balance weight, and a Monte Carlo bar in the engine bay to stiffen front chassis during hard cornering.

The interior features modern Flo Fit performance seats, three point inertia seatbelts, new carpet, insulation, sound deadening, and a Pioneer sound system with JBL and Infinity Kappa speakers boosted by a dedicated amp. It also has air conditioning.

The car is spirited, accelerates strongly, stops well, carves twisty roads effortlessly, and is road worthy. It turns a lot of heads and has strong presence. It has to be inspected to be fully appreciated.

Cons:

Occasional clutch chatter in 1st gear
Turn signal return has to be installed (provided)
Battery drains over several days if cutoff switch is not used
Speedometer gear slips

“Brand new” 1978 Corvette C3 T-top 25th anniversary pace car.

Privately imported from the US by a local collector, this 25th anniversary special edition is the one and only brand new brand new 1978 Corvette Indianapolis Grand Prix pace car in the Philippines.

Base-priced at $13,653.21, the Pace Car Replica was quite a boost over the $9,351 standard model. But because it looked like an "instant collectible" with just 6502 (one for each dealership in the US) examples of the special edition 25th anniversary pace car built in 1978, every one was sold for more than list price, which prompted this US collector to garage it after just 200 miles to preserve its brand new condition.

After tracking it down in the US, the local collector imported it for his personal collection but now offers it up for auction to a new home. It still has the original dealer’s invoice on the window, plastic on the carpets and all the documentation certified. Only the tires have been changed recently and are period correct.

Condition report:
Vehicle is running well and can be considered ‘as new’ with only minor discoloration on the carpet of the drivers side as it meets the door. It could also use a new battery and a tune up as it rarely gets started.

BMW 850i

The most technologically advanced BMW in its’ day, the 850 has only recently enjoyed its status as a collectors car simply because it was decades ahead of its time. Fitted with the BMW V12 that was rumored to have later served duty in the legendary McLaren F1 car, this fine example has been well-cared for and still looks every bit as stunning as it did when it rolled off the showroom floor 22 years ago. It features the classic red with black interior.

Condition report Generally, this is a well-kept example. Paint is in excellent condition with very minor blemishes around the front. Rubber seals are surprisingly intact. The interior has held up well, but show some initial signs of age in the steering wheel and roof lining area. One headlight doesn't operate correctly. The vehicle has 44,531 kms registered on the odometer. Original wheels and tires will also be included separately in the sale.

1956 MGA

One of the friendliest collector cars, the iconic MGA has won the hearts of enthusiasts for being extremely easy to work on. It’s stunning design has earned it a place on numerous Hollywood sets, including ‘Blue Hawaii’ and ‘Guess who is coming to dinner.’

This example makes an ideal car for the first time collector that wants to get their feet wet. The exterior is in almost-show condition, while the interior could make a fantastic project.

Powered by a 68 horsepower 1,489cc overhead valve engine mated to a four-speed manual transmission it features, independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering and a solid rear axle with leaf springs.

Condition report.

Excellent paint condition. Not quite ready for show, but a fine example. Some chrome bezels could be restored, but it would take a keen eye to notice it. Interior needs the most attention. Engine runs smoothly.

1990 Rolls Royce

Still imposing after almost a quarter of a century, this Mark 11 Rolls Royce Silver Spur still turns more heads than many luxury cars a fraction of its age. The interior features burl walnut wood trim, Connolly leather and Wilton carpets and sits on top of Citroen’s hydraulic self-leveling suspension at the rear.

There’s really no stronger statement than a Rolls Royce, and with just 1,152 built, few would be remaining in as good condition as this.

Condition Report.

Generally very well kept. Tires could use replacing as they are quite worn. Paint is in good condition but may need some color correction as the front right fender seems marginally different to the rest. Steering wheel also seems to have been replaced.

2014 Maserati Quattroporte S V6
404hp, 8-speed automatic, Rossi Folgorio paint with tan interior.

While many Italian sports cars steal your heart, this one mended one.

The accidental hero in the fight of a 2 month old baby named Alessandra that needed open heart surgery, this Quattroporte raised enough to save a little a little girl’s life after motoring journalist James Deakin auctioned off chauffeured rides around Manila.

Generously lent to him by the Soong family, the exclusive distributors of Maserati in the Philippines, James used his website to auction off rides in exchange for donations. Complete with chauffeurs cap and suit, James’ first customer was actress Rhian Ramos, who asked to be driven to a red carpet event in MOA.

The publicity generated from there attracted more and more bids, as well as more and more celebrities, and managed to raise 234,000 in just 3 days. As James went to break the incredible news to the family and turn over the money, it unravelled a story that captured the heart of a nation.

While James was close to the parents of baby Alessandra, this was the first time for him to meet the grandfather. James recounts the story on his website:

“He(the grandfather) thanked me over and over again, but seemed a bit confused when he asked me where did I get such a car. I told him that the distributor lent it to me. And not only that but paid for a suite in the Sofitel that I could package together with the dinner and the car to get more money.

He said, “Wellington Soong lent you this?” I said “Yes.” He began to choke back the tears when he said, “Does he know who this is for?” I said “No, he just knows it is for a little girl with a broken heart.”

He looked down and with some tears rolling down his cheeks said, “You tell him that this is my grand daughter that he has helped.”

So I called Mr. Soong up and asked him if he knew who exactly he was helping. To which he replied, “Marc tells me it is a little girl who needs an operation.” So I told him who the little girl was and who her grandfather was. There was silence. Dead silence. Followed by what I could only describe as the sound of a deep sigh that was being muffled by tears.

Mr. Soong eventually explained that as an 11 year-old boy growing up in Mandaluyong their family had very little money and no car. Then one day, a car came past and stopped. One of the boys said, “Hey, don’t you go to our school?” Mr. Soong recognized one of them and jumped in. And from that day forward till the end of 1959 when they finished high school, the Ugarte family picked him up every single day and drove him to school and back.

And as fate would have it, some 50 years later, the wheels of fortune have now turned and it was Mr. Soong’s turn to lend his car out to his friend when he needed the biggest lift of all.”
