To experience the joys of driving a Toyota and visiting different destinations in and around the country--this, in essence is what the Toyota Road Trek is all about. Now on its 14th year, Toyota Road Trek 2018 is no exception as it allowed select members of the motoring media to get behind the wheel of the newest Toyotas and head for some of the most scenic spots in the country.

For its 14th outing, Road Trek 2018 highlighted Toyota’s newest compact SUV, the all-new Toyota Rush. Participants were able to get up close and personal with the vehicle and were able to “feel the Rush”, so to speak. And they got to do so with the picturesque island of Balesin as a backdrop.

This being the Road Trek, this year’s staging would not have been complete without the requisite Road Trek challenges that weren’t just fun but also got the media into the spirit of things. For 2018, Toyota assigned various groups to head for different dealerships to perform their assigned challenges.

Dealerships like Toyota Angeles, Toyota Tarlac, and Toyota Bataan were visited so participants could have a bit of fun via taking photos that were of course, meant for social media. Toyota likewise took this opportunity to introduce a refreshed Alphard that would no doubt see a lot of road trips, especially for clients of its intended market.

Speaking of road trips, this one was made even more enjoyable thanks to Toyota’s extensive fleet of travel-friendly vehicles. The Rush, with its 1.5-liter four-cylinder VVT-I-equipped motor with 105 ample horsepower and light controls was joined by the likes of its biger brothers, the RAV4 and Fortuner. And of course, the hot-selling Innova was also on hand to join in the fun.

And this is what the Toyota Road Trek has always been about. It’s not about getting to your destination in the fastest time. It’s about enjoying the vehicle, soaking up the journey and the different places and sights you’ll see along the way. And taking in the breathtaking vistas of the destination, such as this year’s main highlight--Balesin.

While the Toyota Rush may have been the star of the vehicle lineup, it’s ironic that being in an island paradise like Balesin makes you want to slow down and wish time would just stop—even for a precious few seconds. Well, it along with the other facets of the Toyota Road Trek 2018, somehow melded together beautifully. And that’s what it’s all about.
