While Ford has been building a slew of Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs), crossovers, and trucks lately, one must not forget the racing heritage that this automaker possesses. Yes, it may be known as a builder of tough rigs that can go further, yet the brand still has a rich history with motorsport flowing in its fuel lines.
To celebrate this, Ford recently unveiled the Shelby FP350S race car prepared by Ford Performance. Packing goodies like a seam welded unibody chassis, a six-point roll cage, a performance oil pan and cooler, a 3.73 final drive ratio manual tranny, a racing exhaust and suspension, and a Sparco quick-release steering wheel and racing seat, the car is practically prepped for track duty.
The FP350S is powered by a 32-valve 5.2-liter V8 put together by Ford Performance. Matching the go-fast vibe are aero bits like a splitter and adjustable rear wing, as well as Shelby FP350S graphics. Pardon the cliché, but it literally looks fast even while standing still.
Launched at the 2016 Performance Racing industry show in Indianapolis, it is the latest in a long line of Ford Performance race cars. The distinguished list consists of legends like the FR500C, Boss 302S and 302R, and the Ford Shelby GT350R-C and GT4 race cars. This newest offering works best when used in events like T3 and T4 Trans Am and NASA and SCCA club races, among others. Of course, it can tackle other track sorties just fine.
Want your very own race car? The Ford Shelby FP350S can be ordered at your friendly Ford dealer. (Well, if you live in the US, of course).
