Renowned tire maker Michelin showed its dominance once again in the world of motorsport, as it came out on top in various events like the World Rally Championship (WRC), among others. Toyota’s Jari-Matti Latwala, for instance, took the top step in the Rallye Sweden in the Yaris WRC/Michelin. This follows the team’s podium finish in the recent Rallye Monte Carlo last January.
The victory was likewise Latwala’s 17th and his fourth in Sweden since 2008. He was joined on the podium by Ford M-Sport’s Ott Tanak and Sebastian Ogier. The win was likewise a sweet one for Toyota, as it not only marked the Japanese carmaker’s return to WRC but likewise opened a new wining chapter in its racing history, the highlight of which was its last win in Rallye China in 1999.
Skoda Motorsport-Michelin’s Pontus Tidemand, meanwhile, also came out on top in WRC2. He bested Teemu Suninen (Ford Michelin) and Ole-Christian Veiby (also in a Skoda-Michelin), who came in second and third, respectively.
The 2017 season is only heating up, yet it looks like an exciting year ahead.
