To most folks, the Ford Expedition is power on four wheels. This image is due in no small part to the fact that many a corporate executive, government official, or wealthy individual has been choosing the full-size SUV ever since it entered the local market in the late 1990s.
The new one, which debuted at the Manila International Auto Show earlier this year is no different. Bigger in every dimension compared to its predecessors, the new Exped is not just a hulking beheamoth on the road. On the contrary, it is packed with all the latest tech that the Blue Oval breand has to offer. Add to this the wealth of luxury amenities and you’ve got a ride that is worthy of being the King of the Hill over at the Ford stable.
But what really makes the Expedition stand out from the rest of the Ford SUVs, as well as other competitors out there? The first and most obvious thing you will notice is the look. We’re not just referring to the size but things like the power dome on the large hood, This, along with the generous use of chrome such as an accent strip with big bold EXPEDITION spelled out across its width, connote an image of upscale luxury. All this is backed by an equally robust fully-boxed high strength steel frame wrapped in an aluminum alloy body.
Within its large flanks les a cabin that can comfortably seat 8 passengers, as well as their gear. We’re talking about full size adults here. Ingress and egress is made easier thanks to tip and slide second row seats and a power-folding third row that allows cargo and passenger space configuration in various ways. Of course, each journey in the Expedition is made even more enjoyable thanks to goodies like SYNC3 infotainment system, easy device connectivity, numerous charging ports, a panoramic sunroof, and premium leather seating surfaces, just to name a few.
Hauling all this luxury down the road is an EcoBoost-equipped 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 375hp and 637Nm of torque. Mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox, the motor provides more than ample pulling and cruising power that’s smooth and refined at any speed. Ford claims that with its Auto Start/Stop engine technology that shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped, the big SUV is a miser in city gridlock.
